Key Features

Donwood Community Aged Care Services Inc. (“Donwood”) operates a 105 bed residential aged care facility at 11 Diana Street, Croydon, Victoria.  Donwood also operates six independent living units at 19-21 Diana Street, Croydon. Donwood operates as one community with different wings they being Ainslie, Bronhill and Carcoola, Dublin and Emora.

Carcoola/Dublin consists of 30 rooms all with ensuite bathrooms.  Of these rooms, 10 are Superior single rooms and 20 Deluxe single rooms. Deluxe single rooms range in size from 18 square metres to 20 square metres with the ensuite bathroom approximately 4.5 square metres.  Superior room sizes range from 28.5 square metres to 42.5 square metres with the ensuite bathroom approximately 4.5 square metres.

Emora, our new wing, consists of 15 Duluxe single rooms with ensuites, each ranging in size from 16 square metres to 18 square metres. Ensuites are approximately 4 square metres in size.

One Deluxe room in ‘Emora’ is specifically set aside exclusively for respite care.

Each room has an external window to a landscaped garden or courtyard.  There are extensive lounge areas for residents and their families to enjoy as well as a large decked

area out from the dining room that overlooks the gardens.  The facility has a wheelchair friendly dining room with a brand-new state of the art commercial kitchen.

We have several lounge areas ranging from 32 square metres to 45 square metres with beautiful furnishings, carpets and drapes.

All lounge, dining room and passages of the facility are airconditioned. All bedrooms have individual air conditioners.

A Community Centre and Physiotherapy Clinic is located on the grounds facing Diana Street in its own purpose-built house.

The main reception and administration area is located at 11 Diana Street along with a café, large function and training area.

The ‘café’ is open to residents and the public.

Donwood expanded in 1998 and again in 2004 with the opening of a new purpose built residential facility fronting Diana Street Croydon and known as Diana Street Lodge.  Diana Street Lodge caters for sixty residents, each in single rooms with ensuite bathrooms, centred around Bronhill and Ainslie.

Today in Diana Street Lodge, ‘Ainslie’ is a secure, Dementia Specific (memory support) community with thirty Deluxe rooms, each with ensuite bathrooms, ranging in size from 19.7 square metres to 25 square metres. One room is set aside for respite care.

Residents in ‘Ainslie’ enjoy their own lounge and dining area and have their own private access to external areas of open space, walkways and outdoor seating.

‘Bronhill’ consists of thirty Deluxe rooms of approximately 19 square metres. Each room has its own ensuite bathroom approximately 4.0 square metres in size.

One room in specifically set aside for respite care.

Each room in Bronhill opens to a central living area with additional areas for tea and coffee preparation and a myriad of nooks and crannies for private contemplation.

The large central dining room located between Bronhill enjoys a particularly light and open outlook.  Our activities area extends from the dining area.  Our lifestyle staff offer a wide range of activities to cater for our residents.

Visitors to Diana Street Lodge frequently remark favourably on how light and airy the facility is, with its soaring ceiling, light timber panelled walls, extensive floor to ceiling windows and other architecturally designed features.

The dominant feature of Diana Street Lodge is the open planned dining and activity areas of some 184 square metres of accessible daily living space.

With the advent of changes to Aged Care practices following the implementation of Living Longer Living Better reforms during 2014 there will no longer be a distinction between low care and high care.  Consequently residents will be able to be accommodated throughout the entire facility, whilst Ainslie will remain a Memory Support area.

Of course there is a lot more to consider when choosing between aged care facilities than merely cost and room sizes.  The critical point of difference which Donwood Community Aged Care Services Inc. offers is the quality of care provided, and the supportive community-based environment it enjoys.

We look forward to showing you our facility when you visit.
